Easter Sunday, without fanfare
Happy Easter.
It’s not a holiday I’ve celebrated in recent years. In my family, Easter was for the kids. I guess there wasn’t much point after we all grew up.
I’m sitting in a Seattle coffee shop, and it could be any other Sunday.
Four years ago I was in France for Pâques. I showed my friend Sofia how to make deviled eggs for a party since she couldn’t find the ingredients for her mom’s Easter tradition, Ambrosia Salad.
Sundays in France always fascinated me. Nothing was open but the open-air markets, the bakeries and a few cafés. Easter Sunday was much the same, but the sun was out and the streets were full of families with children in fancy clothes. People were out buying flowers at the markets and glazed pastries in the boulangeries, whose windows were all hung with banners that said Joyeaux Pâcques!
However you’re celebrating, or not celebrating, I hope you have a joyeaux Sunday.
